Sheriff employee steals business from Sheriff
A former Montgomery County, Maryland Sheriff Employee who was responsible for taking request for process serving was referring clients who needed service to her own process serving business. Investigators said that, Joyce Saunders of Frederick was charging $80-$100 to serve people when the Sheriffs office would normally do it for $40.
She persuaded clients to use her business with fictional information about how the Sheriffs office was back logged and could not serve the papers in time. That is when she would recommend her process serving business, for double the fee. Saunders’ attorney said she was instructed to inform people that sometimes it would take three weeks to a month to get the papers served. If they could not wait that long then she would suggest a process server. If they asked the name of a company, She would give them a business card Eagle Eye Process Server. Saunders would then serve the papers on her own time and charge people a fee, just like anyone else would. Saunders is very mad that she is being accused by the Sheriff of Stealing money when the services could not be performed by the Sheriff.
