This article from Miami shows exactly why we need to reprimand/punish people for attacking process servers. The process servers are here due to the Constitution and the due process of law. We are necessary people to the legal system. If the laws do not protect us from such actions it will encourage others to attack process servers. The dog is property and their property attacked a process server on command from the owners. The dog should be contained so that rabies and other test may be conducted on the dog. Also the owners should be arrested and charged with assault and battery.

I personally have never been attacked by a dog while process serving, however, i have been attacked by a dog. It was actually a neighbor’s dog. I went into my neighbors fenced front yard in an attempt to knock on the door to speak with him about something. When i went onto his porch the dog trapped me there and attacked. I have owned many dogs and am what i consider a “dog person.” The dog lunged at my upper leg cause that is the closest thing to its mouth. I stepped/jumped away and the dog nipped my leg and would not let go. I hit the dog about as hard as i have hit anything in my life, knocking the dog unconscious. About 30 seconds after knocking the dog the owner answered the door to his unconscious dog on the ground and me standing there bleeding with ripped jeans. Needless to say, i thought he was going to attack me also, but was amicable. He agreed that his dog should undergo the rabies and other test to make sure that I am okay. He does not live there anymore. I wrote about this cause i am kind of traumatized from this event. This process server will be traumatized. She should be able to sue the dog owners civilly for pain, suffering and emotional distress and the owners should be prosecuted for assault and battery however, its seems like nothing has or will been done.
